In The Four Agreements, the popular book by Don Miguel Ruiz, the third agreement is:
Don’t make assumptions.
“Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want,” he writes. “Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.”
Let’s just start with Medicare. You might assume it covers premiums, deductibles and co-pays. And you wouldn’t be alone. According to a recent poll by Eligibility.com, about 50% of people nearing 65 think Medicare is free.
Unfortunately, those additional costs are not free. Not only that, there’s no out-of-pocket maximum.
The answer? Medicare Supplement Insurance, otherwise known as MedSup or Medigap. Ask an AMBA agent about MedSup policies endorsed by your association. Our agents are specially trained to help you choose the plan that best suits your needs and budget—without assuming anything.
Because as the catchphrase goes, “When you ASSUME, you make an ASS out of U and ME.”
